Sometimes the best tool for the job is one that was designed to do something else
Late last year, Paper Giant began to look at how we could expand our toolset and use other programs to streamline our workflow. With findings and ideas changing constantly in the iterative design phase of projects, the team really craved something collaborative and intuitive to help with jobs that require process-mapping.
Figma is traditionally used for web and app design, but it has a lot of the features we were looking for: cloud-based file management, component systems and deep collaboration support. We can now have one file with multiple users building, changing and designing all at once. We can share, live previews with clients and even build quick interactive prototypes all in the one file.
When deciding what tools to use, don’t just look at the ‘standard’ options – take a step back and analyse your needs, then cast around more broadly for tools that can meet them.
If you’re interested in using Figma for journey-mapping, this article gives a good overview of how to go about it.
